Reflexology is a gentle, soothing, yet effective therapy based on the massage and stimulation of reflex areas found on the feet and hands.

It is an ancient therapy, practised by Chinese, Egyptian, Native American and Japanese cultures. It has developed into the therapy that it is today by the work of many influential figures; Dr William Fitzgerald who worked on pressure points and their relationships with areas of the body; Eunice Ingham who documented the first comprehensive map of the human body in relation to the feet; and Doreen Bayly who brought Reflexology and its practice to England in the 1960's. Studies are now beginning to show the very real relevance to our health and well-being, and most importantly, people are now beginning to experience its positive effects as a tool for a more positive and healthier life-style.

The feet are a reflection of the body, each area  corresponds to a part of the body. The toes represent the head area, the upper half represents the area from the neck to the waistline with the lower half represents from the waistline down. The left foot depicts the left half of the body and its organs, and the right foot the right half. Reflexes are also found on the top of the foot, around the ankle and onto the leg.

Reflexology can also be practised on the hands if the feet are unable to be treated for any reason, and can be just as effective.
